  1. Hi there

    This looks fantastic!

I’m wondering whether it is too late to include a piece that I recently created called Look Up Hannah LOOK UP, about to impact of machines and computers on the human mind and heart, described below. I would also be excited about leading a dance workshop were that an option?

I’ll look forward to hearing from you in relation to this.

    With thanks and best wisjes

    Look Up Hannah LOOK UP:

Look Up Hannah LOOK UP is a lyrical and beautiful contemporary dance piece, with elements of street dance dynamism within it, that teeters between free fluidity and the frustrated bounds of congested flow and indecision that comes from a tragically regimented system that no one is conscious of, yet with no clear or even intuited direction. As well as forming the title, line and curve also refers to the basic metaphorical premise whereby straight lines represent the brutal logistics, procedural lack of emotion and “a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people,” that is associated with machines and technology, whilst the curving pathways in the choreography encapsulates the joy and intensity of human emotion expressed, the love of humanity and represents the power of humans to create happiness, “…the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.”

Oh yes it’s true that with modern technology we can travel to the other side of the world in record time spans, we can send emails or take part in a conference call on the way, or have a ‘Robot Hoover’ carefully clean the carpets on our behalf whilst we merely sit and watch, reminded of the flaws that afflict us; but there is a distinctly familiar lack of the human qualities and milk of human kindness that it takes to render this earth habitable and what if that disappears? What happens to our hearts and minds in and amongst all of this?

Danced to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, the solo piece opens with a moment of despair and turmoil that comes from the severed connections between a human and his heart; this quickly turns into conflict and we see a battle played out on stage… before a sense of hope and calm develops… surely in all of this, one has to have hope… hope, for a world where “science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.” After all, “the clouds are lifting – the sun is breaking through. We are coming out of the darkness into the light. We are coming into a new world”.

    • Hi there!
I am afraid it is too late, we closed the art call on the 9th of February and the artists list is now closed. But I will keep your details for the future events that we have in plan. All the best!Zuza Tehanu and Dark Soul Dance Theatre
